The new moon will be in Cancer on the 4th or 5th July depending on where in the world you are. Cancer is one of the “water” signs, which is associated with our emotions and sensitivities.
It is ruled by the moon which is known as “the regulator”. The new moon signifies new beginnings and it is where we set our intentions. Firstly, let’s look at the energy of Cancer.
The energy of Cancer is known in astrology as cardinal passive energy. Water represents the ebb and flow of our internal emotions ruling the fourth house. In turn, the fourth house represents home, family, security, our needs and sense of belonging.
Cancer is known as the “nurturer” of the zodiac and represents our emotions. Cancerians are often seen as moody, empathetic, extremely sensitive, caring and intuitive. It is always advisable never to under-estimate a Cancerian because of their tenacity and their tendency to sometimes appear to clam up. They withdraw especially if their feelings are hurt and will come out when they are ready and not before, just like a crab. Like the crab they have a hard shell but a soft belly and once you are in the loving energy of a Cancerian you are safe and secure.
The Cancerian new moon helps you get in touch with your intuition and to listen to the messages and signals you are receiving. Being a cardinal sign it will initiate change so ideally you should not wear yourself out but treat yourself gently. Cancer represents the desire to belong, feel safe and cared for. In saying this you may become more aware of your emotional needs which may include the wounds of the past.
Letting go isn’t easy if the emotional wounds run deep, however if the wounds and hurtful memories of the past are making themselves known it is time to open up, accept the need for change and let go. In hindsight it is these kinds of experiences which help us grow.
Some good things to do during this new moon in Cancer is:
- Nurture and care for yourself
- Resolve any family or close relationship issues
- Spend time alone; get creative
- Be honest about your feelings
- Look at your fears and worries
- Feel the compassion for our animal friends and our Mother (Earth)
- Have a relaxing bath
- Eat a nourishing meal
Be aware of your emotional state on days 13 and 14; you may be feeling up in the clouds and then come crashing to the ground because of your plummeting estrogen levels. This could be just what you need to really get in touch with your feelings of fear and to find that emotional security you need.
Days 15 to 18 could be the start of feeling down. Because of the drop in estrogen you may feel you want to withdraw and you’ll find yourself taking care of your home and yourself; you might want to even do something creative.
Your hormones will start dropping off on days 23 through to 28, kicking off PMS. It’s so important to be kind to yourself on these days as the waves of emotions can swing like a pendulum for some, with feelings of sadness, irritation and anger. Be patient as these feelings will subside – in the meantime take time to pamper yourself.
